Meet Cam Kirk: Hip-Hop’s Favorite Photographer

    Meet Cam Kirk 1
Photographer Cam Kirk is becoming one of hip-hop’s most trusted photographer, photographing Gucci Mane, Migos, Future, Lil Yachty and a slew of others.

Interestingly enough, Kirk is an aspiring philanthropist as well. Kirk graduated Morehouse University. While attending, Kirk put together a fashion organization’s fundraiser that lead to a Wiz Khalifa performance, establishing Kirk’s foot in the music industry’s door. Ironically, Kirk didn’t snap a single picture of Khalifa during the performance.

“I knew I didn’t want to go the corporate route and I eventually got fired from my job at adidas at Lenox mall. I got fired right before Christmas and I had a choice whether to go corporate or try to do something from what I did with the Wiz Khalifa concert because I now knew some people.”

After his decision, he organized another concert with a friend that included a performance by Schoolboy Q. But, this time Kirk brought his camera, and documented a day with the rapper. After that, prominent names such as Estelle, Young Jeezy, and Metro Boomin noticed the Morehouse graduate.

“The transition actually started when I linked up with Metro Boomin in 2012,” Kirk said to HypeBeast. “We focused heavily on photography and Instagram had just started…We ended up doing weekly photo shoots and that helped me come up as a brand of the “photographer in hip-hop” in a time when everyone wanted to be a “videographer in hip-hop.”

Since then, Kirk’s most notable work may have been with Gucci Mane.

“The ‘Trap God’ exhibit was something that I did on my own where I showcased myself as my own brand,” Cam said to HypeBeast. “The show was dedicated to Gucci Mane, but he was locked up. There was no production involvement from outside and it was all me.”

However, Kirk’s greatest contribution to society is perhaps his summer courses for students ages 17-24. Kirk said the program will teach students how to brand themselves in addition to developing photography skills. You can contact [email protected] for a chance to enroll in the program for next year.
