It’s Going to Be Litty in the City: “Meek Mill Weekend”is an Official State Holiday

The Daily Beast

Congrats are in order for Meek Mill.

The City of Philadelphia has just granted the Philly rapper with his own statewide weekend. City Council President Darrell L. Clarke made the announcement today, during a meeting. According to the new city level proclamation, Meek Mill Weekend will run through March 14 to March 16.

The award comes during a time when Mill’s been actively taking on the responsibility of changing the way the criminal justice system operates. Since his battle against a Judge Brinkley, who sent the rapper to jail for violating his parole, Mill’s sought to make sure others have a fair chance in the court– opposite of his experiences.

Following Clarke’s decision, Sharif Street, Pennsylvania State Senator, will also be making a big announcement. The street will later announce that Meek Mill Weekend will also serve as a statewide holiday. As the rapper’s “Motivation Tour” rolls into his hometown, he was present to accept the awards.

Mill also has a holiday dedicated to him in Houston, Texas.

Thoughts? Are you a Philadelphia native? If so, how will you be celebrating the new holiday? Leave your comments below, in the comment section.
