Maino Defends Taxstone After Troy Ave Shooting Guilty Verdict

Concurrently with the verdict finding podcaster Taxstone guilty of manslaughter in the 2016 shooting that resulted in the death of Troy Ave’s bodyguard, Troy Ave promptly responded with a diss track targeting the said rapper. On Thursday (March 23) he unleashed “Dear Hater I Won” — an incendiary song that questioned the podcaster’s street credibility and detailed key events from the ensuing investigation.

Maino Defends Taxstone After Troy Ave Shooting Guilty Verdict

In 2016, Brooklyn-based rapper Troy Ave, who performs under the stage name Roland Collins, was in a VIP room at Irving Plaza during a T.I. concert when his rival, Taxstone (real name Darryl Campbell), attacked him. The altercation lasted for several minutes, leaving McPhatter dead and three other people injured.

Collins testified during the trial that he and Campbell had a beef, but it became more serious when Campbell pulled out a gun. During the melee, Collins tried to fight off Campbell with a club-sized weapon. He swung at Campbell with the weapon, causing him to turn and fire in his direction.

According to police, the altercation was not a planned fight but an act of self-defense. Surveillance footage of the incident later surfaced on social media, revealing that both men had a heated argument.

In a recent interview, Maino said that he disagrees with the narrative that Troy Ave should be looked at as an aggressor because of the way he was defending himself. He also disputed the notion that Taxstone should be painted as a snitch because he was facing a murder charge.
