Maff Test is An Artist You Need To Know

We are currently experiencing a resurgence of lyricism in hip-hop, where artists are once again focusing on carefully crafted lyrics and song structures. Maff Test, an emcee from Harvey, IL, exemplifies this trend. Following the release of his single “David Ruffin,” he shares his inspiration behind the song. Drawing from David Ruffin’s confidence and irreplaceable role in The Temptations, Maff Test aims to embody that bold energy in his own efforts. It’s all about being fly and confident while staying focused on the music.

How does Maff approach his writing process?                                                      Ideas and concepts often come to me spontaneously.

What does “NFL” stand for in Maff’s alias, “NFL Harvey”?                                     NFL represents “No Finish Line” and serves as a source of motivation for both myself and others. It signifies that there are no limits to our pursuits, regardless of the goals we set or the setbacks we face. We keep pushing forward.

Which song does Maff believe truly represents him as an artist?                       While there may be an upcoming release that captures it perfectly, for now, I’d have to choose “Left or Right.”

How did Maff come up with his name?                                                                 Haha, I get that question a lot. It’s actually quite simple. The name “Maff” originated from the old-school expression “clockin maff,” which means making money. One of my older friends mentioned it one day, and I liked it so much that I adopted it. Initially, I didn’t plan for it to become a significant part of my music journey, but here we are. It’s a unique name that sticks with people.

What do you do when you’re not making music?                                                        I stay busy with various things. I’m a sneaker enthusiast and a car lover, so you’ll often find me pursuing those passions. Additionally, I design clothes for my website and enjoy working on different projects, whether it’s renovating houses, fixing up cars, or even working on my motorhome. During the day, I’m focused on generating income, and at night, I devote time to making more music to further my earnings. And of course, I always make time for my family.

Do you have any upcoming shows? When was your last tour?                                  I don’t have any shows scheduled at the moment, but they’re coming soon. The last time I went on tour was in 2020 with Fashawn & J-Stone. Unfortunately, it got cut a bit short due to the pandemic. But don’t worry, I’m working on it and will keep you updated.

Is there anything else you’d like to share before we wrap up?                                  Stay tuned for the release of the David Ruffin music video. It’s dropping soon, and it’s going to have that cool retro funk vibe. I’ve seen the treatment and what my director sent me, and it’s looking amazing. You definitely don’t want to miss it. Also, be on the lookout for more music and visuals. Follow me and let me know what you’re excited about. I’ve been thinking about sharing vlogs on money-making methods and credit because they often have a direct connection to the music industry. So, reach out and let’s connect.
