The Christopher Columbus Statue that once stood in downtown Los Angeles’ Grand Park is gone!
LA County Supervisor Hilda Solis provided an honest statement on the removal, stating:
The statue of Christopher Columbus rewrites a stained chapter of history that romanticizes expansions of European empires and exploitations of natural resources and of human beings.
This interesting and progressive feat comes a year after the County Board of Supervisors and Los Angeles City Council voted to get rid of Columbus Day as a holiday. Instead, they have replaced Columbus Day with “Indigenous Peoples Day.”
