Lollapalooza Offers Refunds After Drake Cancels Headline Last Minute

Lollapalooza Brazil faced a lineup change when Drake, the scheduled headliner, was replaced by Skrillex. The Canadian rapper was expected to conclude the three-day festival on Sunday night but withdrew last-minute, citing production issues. The festival shared a message on its Instagram, explaining, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, Drake’s sound and production team, crucial for the Lollapalooza show in Sao Paulo, faced challenges.” It provided ticket holders with various options and set a refund deadline until April 5.

    Production Issues

The decision to change Lollapalooza from a touring festival to a destination festival was an inspired move that had proven to be a rousing success. It also meant that Lollapalooza would not face the same level of risk that touring festivals faced; bad weather, poor acoustics, and fickle local audiences could sink a tour.

The earliest lineups at Lollapalooza were packed with buzz bands and up-and-coming talent that were riding the crest of an intense wave of internet hype. They were eager to prove themselves to fans in the audience, and that excitement translated into a performance that would be rewarded with a standing ovation.

But the size and scope of Lollapalooza, as well as the broader landscape of major festivals, has limits on its potential as a platform for nurturing new talent. Many acts are better served by performing at a smaller regional showcase or club setting rather than the massive festival stage. The impact of these limitations has been felt, quietly, by promoters and club owners throughout the country.

    Drizzy Partying in Miami

Drake was spotted partying with 50 Cent at a strip club in Miami hours before he was scheduled to perform at Lollapalooza Brasil, which caused some fans to get very upset. The Canadian rapper was expected to headline on Sunday, March 26 but he ended up canceling his set the morning of his scheduled appearance.

The festival issued a statement clarifying that the Toronto singer’s absence from his performance was due to “unforeseen circumstances” involving his sound and production team. They added that it was “beyond his control.”

While the festival offered refunds to those who purchased tickets to day three, some are still angry at Drizzy’s absence. Luckily, he is expected to make up for it by embarking on a tour this summer with 21 Savage called the It’s All A Blur Tour.

    Refunds Available

Organizers of Lollapalooza Brazil have offered refunds to ticket holders after rapper Drake pulled out of his scheduled performance. The ‘One Dance’ rapper was set to close the three-day festival with a headlining set on Sunday night, but was forced to pull out just hours before the show.

According to the festival, Drizzy was not able to perform because he did not have members of his sound and production team in place to make the show possible.

Fans have expressed disappointment with the decision. One fan posted, “Drake is a big star and he should be able to put on a show that his fans will remember forever. He should not have to cancel a show just because some people on his staff can’t be there.”

Earlier this month, Drizzy faced backlash from South American fans who felt his sets at the Argentina and Chile editions of Lollapalooza were too short. He also was criticized for not livestreaming his sets.

    Reactions

Lollapalooza has begun offering refunds to attendees after Drake was replaced with skrillex as the headliner. The rap star’s postponement came just hours before his performance, causing a lot of frustration for fans who weren’t able to attend the final day of the festival.

Some were upset that Drake performed only 40 to 50 minutes compared to a headlining act’s average 90-minute set. Others were upset that he didn’t live stream his performance, which is typically the case for major festival acts.

Many were even more disappointed when they learned that Drizzy canceled his performance because he was going to party with rapper 50 Cent in Miami. In footage that has since surfaced, the rap superstars can be seen dapping each other up and dancing to 50’s 2007 hit ‘I Get Money’ inside a Miami strip club. The footage immediately caught the attention of fans, who were quick to respond online.
