Lil Uzi Vert Covers Backstreet Boys’ Song
The native Philadelphia rapper Lil Uzi Vert has just released a new song titled “That Way”. This track samples one of the Backstreet Boys’ famous songs, “I Want It That Way”. Although I did not have the highest expectations before giving this song a listen, it is pretty good. Check out this link to listen to the “That Way” on Youtube.
What to Expect
Lil Uzi thankfully doesn’t do a sloppy cover of the original Backstreet Boys’ song but instead just references it in the chorus. The song features a melodic beat that goes well with Lil Uzi Vert’s flow and style. After only a few days of after being released, “That Way” has millions of streams across sites such as Youtube.
Members of the Backstreet Boys have already gone to show their approval of the song. Nick Carter posted on twitter, saying how much he loved the song. Carter even went as far as to invite Lil Uzi Vert to be part of the group’s next album.
Rap and hip-hop have changed quite a bit within recent years. It is hard to predict what new sounds and styles in music will be. A prime example of this is the massive success of Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” country collaboration with Billy Ray Cyrus. Lil Uzi Vert has continued this trend of unexpected samples and collaborations from Hip-Hop artists.
When one initially hears of collaborations between such contrasting music genres, it is hard not to strike one as odd. But it seems like artists such as Lil Nas X and Lil Uzi Vert have made the right call. These unconventional samples and collaborations between what are thought to be contrasting music styles have gone to show just how much music has to offer.
What are your guy’s thoughts though?
Do you enjoy these new and unexpected samples? Or would you prefer that people such as Lil Uzi Vert and Lil Nas X stick to the more typical forms of rap?
