The wait is over… well kinda. Lil Nas X just announced the release of his new anticipated studio album “Montero”. On August 31 the “Industry Baby” singer revealed the cover and full tracklist.

    Lil Nas X’s Inspiration

The 22-year-old also notes the inspiration for the cover. Using references from a piece titled Genesis II created by artist John Stephens. The artwork goes by “The Glory of the Eternal, it relates to the bible verses Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2, Where it shows how God created the earth from nothingness.

Nas X also pointed out on Twitter the bible verse, “Thus the Heavens and the Earth were completed in all their vast array. By the seventh, God had finished the work he had being doing; so on the seventh day he rested, from all of his work”.

The artwork also denotes the materiality of the world. “The earth was a formless void, and darkness covered the face of the deep”.

Others, for example, the Tidal Twitter account, mentioned that the cover art was inspired by a SpongeBob SquarePants lore. The singer made sure to poke some fun at the post as well.

Lil Nas X has come far and wide from his hometown in Atlanta. Having approximately 55 million listeners on Spotify alone. 6.8 million followers on Twitter, and possessing a diamond-certified single with “Old Town Road”. It is safe to say that X has come through, and is here to change how we see the industry today.

Montero will be available on all streaming platforms on September 17.
