Lil’ Kim was a trending topic on social media the evening of the 2021 BET Awards (June 27). Besides the “Prada bangs” the Brooklyn rapper donned during a tribute to Queen Latifah, she was also discussed for revealing that she’d want to participate in a Verzuz battle with Nicki Minaj.
Given Kim and Nicki’s history, the revelation came as a surprise to many. “Lil Kim lowkey setting herself up, Nicki got a catalogue with different alter egos in rap & pop. Good luck ma,” one Twitter user wrote. It was even argued that 90’s rival Foxy Brown would be a more suitable opponent. “lil kim just said she would do a verzuz with nicki…. but why???? foxy brown is right there…,” another user wrote.
Junior Mafia groupmate Lil Cease weighed in on Kim wanting to go up against Nicki. “I think it would be great for the culture. I think that when everybody heard Kim say it they took it the wrong way. If you felt like they had issues, this would be the time to get them both in the same room,” Cease told AllHipHop.
“Kim was just extending that invite. Saying, ‘I would rather go with her because I think it makes sense.’ It is not about the era; it is about two songs from two queens; One passing the baton and one showing love to ‘The Queen,'” he added. Cease also made it clear that he’s “Team QB [Lil’ Kim] for life.”

Minaj has yet to openly respond to Kim’s request for a battle.
