We smell the next The Hunger Games series, and it’s coming from an unlikely source.

Kobe Bryant is doing something different with his ball-handling skills. The retired NBA star is entering into the book industry. TMZ says that Kobe Bryant is taking his shot at young adult books.

And so far, he’s already got a couple of ideas that he’s ready to get out there.

First up is “Legacy and the Queen.” And no it isn’t about a basketball player…though, it’s pretty close to it.

It’s actually about a female tennis prodigy who gets roped into saving a magical kingdom.

Here’s an excerpt

Legacy’s heart began to miss beats. Just outside the city wall, she could see the white peaks of the tent where Van had told her the tri- als would be held. They looked as pristine and untouchable as the meringue on a fancy cake in picture books. That, Legacy thought, was where she’d have to win all her matches. She’d have to beat every kid from the provinces if she wanted to earn that academy spot.

His second young adult book idea takes a different route. Rather than follow a young athlete, it follows two characters who form an unlikely friendship, despite their very different lives. It’s called “Epoca: The Tree of Ecof,” and it hits bookshelves just two months after “Legacy and the Queen.” “Legacy and the Queen” comes out in September.

Kobe has a lot going for him following his years after his rule on the court. He and his wife just welcomed baby #4 to their growing family of all girls.

He’s even got his multimedia company, Granity Studios, which is helping him to get these books out.

Mamba is aiming to get both books out within the next 12 months.

It’s worth noting that Kobe doesn’t have experience writing books, someone else will be doing the writing for him. He’s just in charge of coming up with the ideas.
