The day has finally come.
5 time NBA champion Kobe Bryant has announced his retirement at the end of the 2015-16′ regular season. After 20 years spent solely with the Los Angeles Lakers, Bryant made the statement that “this season is all I have left to give.”
“With 17 NBA All-Star selections, an NBA MVP, five NBA Championships with the Lakers, two Olympic gold medals and a relentless work ethic, Kobe Bryant is one of the greatest players in the history of our game” NBA commissioner Adam Silver said in a public statement.
We all have seen the recent struggles Bryant has faced with injuries, over and over again. Being the highest paid player this season (making a whopping $25 Million over a two year deal) it wasn’t expected that his retirement be on his last year. That time has come early, and Kobe knows that his reign has finally come to an end.
“My heart can take the pounding. My mind can handle the grind but my body knows it’s time to say goodbye.”
