Kendrick Lamar’s Collaborates on Film With South Park

We’re still waiting for Kendrick Lamar to release his new album, but the rapper is already expanding his horizons with a film project that he’s co-producing. It’s an untitled comedy starring South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, and Paramount Pictures’ll release it.
It’s also the rapper’s first feature produced under his pgLang company. Launched by him and Dave Free in 2020, pgLang is a multidisciplinary media company that includes a record label, publishing house and production company all in one.
The first project in the pgLang portfolio is a live-action film that will be written by Vernon Chatman, who has been writing for South Park for some 25 years. He’s an Emmy and Peabody-award winning writer who has worked on a number of shows including Adult Swim’s The Shivering Truth, Wonder Showzen, Xavier: Renegade Angel and Trigger Warning With Killer Mike.
He’s also worked with pgLang on several projects, including a short film called The Melodic Blue that Lamar’s younger cousin Baby Keem made last year.
It’s based on a “racially charged” story about a Black man who interns as a slave reenactor at a living history museum, only to discover that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned him.
The film will be directed by Parker and Stone, who are producers for their Park County banner, with Lamar and Free producing via pgLang. The upcoming movie, which is currently unnamed, is scheduled to start filming in the spring. It will be distributed by Paramount Pictures, and there are intentions to stream it on Paramount Plus.
