Kai Exos Releases New Song & Video
Singer-songwriter Kai Exos today releases his new song
and video, Komorebi, via VMP Music, his independent label and publishing group. Komorebi was produced by Kai Exos, engineered by Keyel Walker (WS Boogie, Jhené Aiko) and mixed by David Nakaji (BTS, Amine, Kendrick Lamar).
The record, premiering today at RESPECT. Magazine
., marks Kai’s first foray as a solo R&B producer. RESPECT. said, “The visual, is compelling and impossible to ignore with its triggering scenes which draw from the delightful sounds of the song. Kai remains an artist to watch as he weaves his art both visually and sonically setting up a dream-like feeling that stays with you long after the song is over.”
Komorebi is a short yet powerful glimpse into the reclusive artist’s ethereal dreamscape as imagined on a recent trip back to Tokyo.
What to Expect
Kai shares, “I finished writing Komorebi during typhoon season, on a sailboat (!) for my birthday. It’s so cool that they have words in Japanese to describe sacred, natural phenomena like the light dappling through a forest canopy. Even as a little boy, I’ve always admired the magical quality and careful nature of their culture, so I wrote a love letter to it. Came out super pretty, writing the piano in Toronto and finishing up at my new studio in LA.”
The strong aesthetic that Komorebi embodies in the music video was borne of a side conversation between Kai and long-time friend, photographer Emari Traffie during a recording session. As a first-time director, she elegantly shone a spotlight on patterns that Kai often explores in his music; lineage, futurism, and ritual.
Komorebi is the first song from a new concept album due to be released in Spring 2020 with video releases on the way and show rehearsals in full swing.
A writer at heart, singer and entrepreneur Kai Exos puts a finer point to everything he does. With his soulful debut Telegraph and breakout track “Vigilante,” he launched an acclaimed career that led to a global tour and fans all over the Americas, Europe, and Asia — reaching new heights on the self-titled 2018 Kai Exos EP. His self-penned “Fire & Brew” and “Hold Out The Light,” clocked 6MM+ cumulative streams alongside a coveted spot on Billboard’s Next Big Sound.
In an unprecedented turn, Kai Exos entered the US Mainstream Top 40 peaking at #4. Ever forward, this cemented Kai Exos as the only indie artist of the year to achieve two consecutively charting singles. Now in early 2020, the young producer-singer’s momentum continues as he collaborates with some of his favorite artists and songwriters in LA.
