Justine Damond Family Will Receive $20 Million In Settlement From The City Of Minneapolis

A recent tragedy will cost the police department of Minneapolis in the amount of $20 Million.

An official settlement has been reached due to the tragic death of Justine Ruszczyk Damond. Justine, a yoga instructor was killed by a Minneapolis cop. Both parties came to an agreement in the sum of $20 million. The settlement took place three days after jurros convicted the former cop Mohamed Noor of third-degree murder. In additon he was charged with second-degree manslaugter regarding the incident that took place on July 15th, 2017. Overall, Damond was a duel citizen of both the U.S. and Australia.

Damond, 40, dialed 911 after believing that a sexual assault was taking place in an alley near her. Noor along with his partner were responding to the call, and pulled up to Damond’s home. Furthermore, the cops mistook Damond for a threat and open fired killing her. At the time she was allegedly unarmed.  Even more, originally her family filed for a $50 million lawsuit against the city. Hence, the original case was put on hold pending the result of Noor’s criminal case. As a result, After his conviction settlement talks certainly almost began immediately.

“We know that no amount of money can heal the pain that the Ruszczyk family or any family that has lost a loved one in this way,” Bender said. “It is our continued commitment to work together, with our community, to demand and support change to policing.”

After being awarded the settlement offer, the family pledged $2 million to a local charity centered around gun violence in Minneapolis. Consequently, the killer Noor, will tace up to 15 years in prison. He will be officially sentenced on June 7.

“This is not a victory for anyone, but rather a way for our city to move forward,” Mayor Jacob Frey said. “And I do believe that we will move forward together, united in the shared belief that such a tragedy should never occur in our city.”
