Big Chance Jussie Smollett Fired from Returning

The curtains may be closing in on Jamal Lyon, Jussie Smollett’s character on Empire. Rumors are swirling that Jussie Smollett is fired.

Empire has just been granted with a sixth season, but news suggests that the season may go on without Jamal. Despite how good things looked last week, when Smollett dined with Brett Mahoney, Empire‘s showrunner, Fox Entertainment and 20th Century Fox TV apparently have no plans to bring the character back.

Jussie Smollett Fired?<

In a statement, released by a spokesperson for Smollett, it reads, “We’ve been told that Jussie will not be on ‘Empire’ in the beginning of the season, but he appreciates they have extended his contract to keep Jamal’s future open. Most importantly, he is grateful to Fox and ‘Empire’ leadership, cast, crew and fans for their unwavering support.”

Though there are no plans to bring him back right now, that doesn’t mean he’s completely out of a gig. As it appears, his character could still have a future with the show…just not an immediate future. It’s not hard to believe that it will be Jussie Smollet fired.

In either case, you can still catch Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson as Lucious and Cookie Lyon. The season 5 finale airs next week.
