On Sunday afternoon, there was an incident in New Jersey’s federal judge Esther Salas’s house. During this attack, Esther Salas’s son and husband were shot. The investigation is currently happening so as it continues more details should come out about the attack. 

Details of the attack

Report: Federal Judge Esther Salas' husband, son shot at their home

At around 5 pm on Sunday, there was a knock on Judge Salas’s home in North Brunswick. Her husband, Mark Anderl, was the one who answered the door; instantly he was shot. 

After the shooter went over to Judge Salas’ son, Daniel Anderl, and shot him straight into his chest.

Judge Salas was not harmed during the attack. Mark Anderl is in critical condition in the hospital and Daniel Anderl passed away from the gunshot. 

Who was the attacker? 

The suspect was described as a white man, he was wearing a mask and a FedEx uniform. While fleeing the scene he drove a regular car. 

The suspect was an attorney that Judge Salas was assigned to back in 2015. 

After he fled the scene, he shot himself in his car near Liberty, New York, his self inflicted shot ended his life. 

What are people saying about the attack? 

New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez spoke out about the situation saying the following: 

“I know Judge Salas and her husband well, and was proud to recommend her to President Obama for nomination to New Jersey’s federal bench,” 

 “My prayers are with Judge Salas and her family, and that those responsible for this horrendous act are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.”

The FBI Newark office also made a statement: 

“The FBI is investigating a shooting that occurred at the home of Judge Esther Salas in North Brunswick Township, New Jersey earlier this evening, July 19. We are looking for one subject and ask that anyone who thinks they may have relevant information please call FBI Newark at 973-792-3001. We are working closely with our state and local partners and will provide additional updates when available.”

Her son was going to be a junior in Catholic University, the president of the university made a statement: 

“ We all mourn and grieve this loss to our University community. Our deepest condolences go out to Daniel’s parents, Esther Salas and Mark Anderl. We pray too for Daniel’s father, who was also shot and is in the hospital”.
