The key witness used in the murder trial of Amber Guyger’s case was shot and killed in Dallas, Texas.
The witness, Joshua Brown, was the neighbor of Bothman Jean, the man killed by Guyger last September. Joshua’s testimony was the key testimony that helped jurors come to a guilty verdict for Guyger.
But on Friday, he was gunned down in an apartment parking lot, by an unknown suspect.
Lee Merritt, the Jean family’s attorney, as well as Joshua’s attorney, believes Joshua was targeted for his participation in the trial. He states that just before the trial started, Joshua had expressed his fears. Evidently, Johsua was under the assumption his life was in danger.
Lee tells news outlets that it hadn’t been the first time his client had come face to face with harm.
“To have a key witness, suddenly be killed is suspicious. Was this related to the trial? There is no clear indication.”
According to CBS News, a silver four-door sedan was seen speeding away from the scene just seconds after several gunshots were fired at Joshua.
Currently, the Dallas police say they are investigating the murder. However, there remains to be a lack of evidence leading to the suspect.
Joshua was expected to testify in the civil case against the Dallas police.
