Joel Embiid Could Possibly Return Against Rockets

If you’re a Sixers fan than you’re familiar with injury reports regarding Sixers star Embiid.

Prior to entering the NBA draft out of Kansas, Embiid suffered a broken foot. Overall, as a result, he dropped to the 3rd overall selection in the NBA draft after being projected to be selected 1st overall. Furthermore, Embiid eventually recovered and was able to enter his first NBA season in the 2016-2017 NBA season. The Sixers placed Embiid on minute-restriction during his first year with the team. Ultimately Embiid has lived up to expectations, averaging 24 points and 11 rebounds per game on his career, 27 points per game and 13 rebounds this season.

    Preserving Joel Embid

But since the All-Star Break Embiid hasn’t played a game due to left knee soreness, and recent reports from CBS.com are stating that Embiid could possibly return to the Sixers game against Houston on Friday night.

“I hope so,” said Brown, quoted in The (Wilmington) News Journal. “But I’d be reckless to declare it official. I believe there’s a chance that he may meet us in Houston.”

Brown wouldn’t speculate on Embiid’s availability or lack thereof against the Rockets. In addition, many people question if the 24-year-old star joins up with the team in Texas. Reports are also out there that Embiid has stated he can play now. Above all, if he absolutely needed to play he will, but the star big man is valuing long-term health.

“It’s about long-term preservation and making sure I’m ready not just for the playoffs, but also for the next 15 years,”

Embiid said before Saturday night’s game at Wells Fargo Center. “Knowing the team, what we’ve through, and knowing me and I like to push everything, I like to play through anything. We just felt like it was better to preserve. Initially reticent to give a specific time frame for his return, Embiid eventually relented and said — after saying he’d be back “soon” several times — that he plans to return sometime next week.

“Game by game, I felt like it was getting worse,” Embiid said. “I felt like me, personally, I didn’t feel comfortable. Coming from me you know that if I don’t want to push through anything, I really need [the rest].
“I’m glad it was nothing, and the MRIs showed nothing, so it was good.”

    Sixer’s Recent Standings

Most recently, the Sixers suffered a 108-107 loss to the Bulls Wednesday night. The team has done fairly well in their last 10 games at 6-4, good enough for fourth in the west. The Sixers are a game behind the third-place Pacers, and 5 games behind the first place Milwaukee Bucks.

In conclusion, should the Sixers have worries about their center? Do you think that he will be able to play for another 15 years?
