Janelle Monáe has officially signed on for two new movie projects. According to Variety, the singer-songwriter-actress is joining the cast of Harriet Tubman’s biopic, Harriet and an animated movie titled Ugly Dolls.
While it is unsure on what rile Jannell Monae will take in Harriet, she will support Cynthia Erivo who portrays the heroic abolitionist. For those who need a quick history lesson, Tubman was born into slavery in 1849. Therefore, she made it her mission to rescue 70 slaves through the Underground Railroad. She also served as a spy during the Civil War and campaigned for women’s suffrage. In terms, of Ugly Dolls, the details remain scarce but she will definitely perform original songs on the film’s soundtrack.
