Kelsea Ballerini Opens Up About Her Divorce in Intimate Screening of ‘Rolling Up the Welcome Mat’

Country star Kelsea Ballerini is giving fans a chance to see her side of her recent divorce from Morgan Evans in an intimate new EP and short film. The singer/songwriter dropped Rolling Up the Welcome Mat on Valentine’s Day with a heart-tugging short film. The six-track project takes on a different perspective of her emotional, romantic journey in the aftermath of their split.

The GRAMMY nominee unveiled the vulnerable release with a short film. The film begins in a big house surrounded by windows and a welcoming brown mat. Ballerini walks inside and sits at a table, looking out onto an amazing view of the mountain range.

It’s a scene that sets the stage for the rest of the project. As the video progresses, Ballerini discusses her feelings of being suffocated in their home. She also discusses her ex-husband’s streak of infidelity.

His unfaithfulness added to the destruction of their marriage. In the end, Ballerini admits that she still loves Evans, but she’s able to move on, despite their separation. She explains that she wants to give people a deeper insight into her experience with love and loss.

This is compared to the more light-hearted tracks from her 2022 album, Subject To Change. She says that the new EP is dedicated to the fans who embraced the delicate songs and made them their own. Ballerini continues to open up about the relationship in a new track called Interlude, where she talks about her feelings of being lost.

She claims that she’s “trying to find me again” after losing her ex. In the end, she says that she’s not going to let her past define who she is and vows never to lose herself again in a relationship. Ballerini’s latest project comes on the heels of the sold-out UK leg of her Heartfirst Tour.

The tour commences on February 23rd, covering cities like Manchester, Glasgow, and Birmingham, and concludes its journey on March 18th in Pittsburgh, PA. The tour supports her fourth studio album, which came out this year.

She will launch the US leg of her show in March, beginning March 6 in Toronto, Ontario, with nine headlining shows across North America. See her full schedule here.
