An Indian woman is 1 in a million, according to the National Institutes of Health.
Arifa Sultana, 20, is the mother of three healthy babies, but to her knowledge, she was only pregnant with one. Back in February, Sultana went into labor and was taken to a hospital in Dhaka, a city in Bangladesh. There she gave birth to a baby boy. It was all a very normal pregnancy, which resulted in the birth of a regular child, thus, allowing for Sultana be allowed to take her newborn home.
However, just 26 days after giving birth, she was back in labor. To her surprise, as well as doctors, Sultana had what the medical world refers to as uterus didelphys. Normally, a woman’s body has two tubes, each tube forms a uterus, which is then fused together to make one. But in Sultana’s case, that did not occur. Instead, her uterus’ did not combine…and remained hidden from each other by a dividing wall.– giving her two wombs.
A doctor, at the Ad-Din hospital, recalls the woman being very confused during her visit to the hospital.
“She came to the hospital complaining of lower abdominal pain,”
It wasn’t until after an ultrasound had been given that she discovered there were a set of twins in her stomach, ready to come out. Sultana is now the mother of three healthy babies. CNN reports that she’s healthy herself too.
