Iggy Azalea caught onto the Hollywood demon that gets into stars heads.
Two years ago, the rapper’s management team encouraged her to take a step back at a mental health retreat in Arizona.
After resisting, she gave in and attended a facility in Arizona.
“They just didn’t want me to f–k up my own life, basically,” Azalea said in an interview with Cosmopolitan.
The 29-year-old artist spent two weeks opening up to a therapist. She talked about things from her childhood to control issues to resisting criticism, like “not being able to separate well-intended criticism from trolling.”
She also explored the difficulties of being in the public eye so quickly at such a young age.
“The whole thing was very overwhelming,” she said.
“You’re suddenly mega f–king famous within a few months.”
Iggy Azalea said that when it came down to it, she was emotionally exhausted and she needed time to reflect and recuperate.
“I just couldn’t get out of functioning at this insanity level,” she said.
“Where you’re like, Whoa, hold on, don’t operate the vehicle.”
Her breakthrough came when she realized that she had to stop trying to defend herself against every critic that challenged her.
“You want to be right so bad because you feel like you’re justified, your emotions are so real,” she said. “It’s hard to say, ‘Okay, I handled that in a bad way.’”
Now, her twitter days are now over.
For now, Azalea is ready for a musical comeback with her new album, In My Defense.
And, Iggy has moved from LA to Atlanta to live with her boyfriend Playboi Carti.
