As the elections are getting down to the wire, the Democratic presidential candidates, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, are attempting to reach the millennial voters. It seems like Hillary Clinton is winning this battle by appealing to a younger audience through fashion.
Clinton plans to launch a collection of campaign merchandise under her Made for History project. The first collection in the project is three t-shirts designed by Marc Jacobs, Tory Burch, and Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow of Public School.
Marc Jacobs’ white ringer tee features a red, white, and blue colored pop-art photo of Clinton’s face. This photo in combination with three stars and the year 2016 is reminiscent of Barack Obama’s “Hope” poster. According to Hillary Clinton’s campaign website, Jacob said:
“My support for Hillary is grounded on our long-standing shared belief in equality. I am proud to share this t-shirt as a champion for equal rights, for the progress we have made and for the hope of continued progress with Hillary as president.” Kendell Jenner has endorsed Clinton by posting a photo of her in Jacob’s shirt on both Instagram and Twitter with the caption “Shirt by @themarcjacobs. History by @hillaryclinton. #MadeForHistory #ImWithHer @voguemagazine.”
Tory Burch’s white t-shirt reads, “Women’s rights are human rights…” in a rainbow font. The American, female fashion designer wanted to take a colorful approach while promoting women’s rights. “A colorful tribute to a seminal moment for women’s equality, when Hillary Clinton traveled to Beijing and proudly declared: Women’s rights are human rights,” Burch said.
Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow of Public School chose to design a simple black crewneck with the slogan “Make Herstory” across the front. They decided to make their t-shirt resemble a sports jersey by using a varsity font for the phrase on the front and the number 16 on the back. The Public School duo said,“A Hillary Clinton presidency would mark an exciting and bold new chapter in America’s story — and in the story for women’s equality. Change doesn’t happen by keeping things the same. Real change comes from being brave, being different. We have a long way to go but it’s not only time for history but herstory as well.”
