Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!
An adlib that only belongs to one rapper. Yes, we are talking about Westside Gunn from the hip-hop group, Griselda. Griselda is new to the hip-hop scene but has a flow that could easily put them in the ranks of the Wu-Tang crew. In fact, in their group album WWCD (an initialism for What Would Chine Gun Do) , Wu member Raekwon the chef said he pass them the torch. However, I am here to talk about only one rapper from the group and that’s the fly-god himself, West-Side Gunn.
On April 17, 2020, we were treated to the sounds of West-Side Gunn’s solo album Pray for Paris. Pray for Paris (PP) is an album that is new but old at the same time. Let me explain. As you know, Griselda and its members are heavily influenced by the 90’s rap scene. They rap like the ’90s and they flow like them to, but still, their music has a twist that catches the attention of fans today and that era of 90’s rap.
What about the album?
Not only is this album name after the t-shirt line, that had the streets talking but its album cover is made by Vergil Abloh. Wait! There is more swag. The beats are smooth in the album and easy to fall hypnotize to its sound. The features are well picked up ranging from the other Griselda members, Wale, and Tyler, the creator. With these smooth beats come bars. I mean hard bars that will have you wanting more. The only downfall to this album is that some songs can be short and the album can be over fast. It seems like once you started it, it’s over already.
Overall, This album is great. It has its own sound that still give Griselda vibes but has Westside’s magic on it. If you are a Wu fan or just a fan of 90’s rap then you will like this album. This album is easily an 8.7 out of 10.
