Gina Rodriguez is under fire for using the N-word.

Gina Rodriguez is sending out an apology after she uploaded a video of her rapping along to the Fugees’ hit, “Ready or Not.”

The clip shows the actress in hair and makeup while listening to the Fugees’ song. She could be seen reciting the verse:

“I can do what you do, easy, believe me/Fronting n—-s give me hee-bee-gee-bees.”

Though the “Ready or Not” hit did feature the word, Gina Rodrigez caught major backlash. Thus, resulting in Rodrigez taking to her Instagram story to send an apology!

“I just wanted to reach out and apologize,” she said. “[She is] am sorry, I am sorry if I offended anyone by singing along to the Fugees, to a song I love that I grew up on. I love Lauryn Hill.”

According to The Hollywood Unlocked, this is not the first time that Rodrigez has come up in a conversation about race and language.

If you recall, back in June, Rodrigez was in tears when asked about a comment she made that was perceived as anti-black.

She’s also been accused of pitting black and Latinx actors against each other. Allegedly.

[Update]

Boyz II Men singer Shawn Stockman is now defending Gina!

TMZ recently caught up with him and asked him about the situation. He told explained to the cameraman,

“Here’s my thing. She was singing a song, and if you’re gonna sing a song, make sure that you censor yourself. We can all censor ourselves. He went on to say, “But as far as I’m concerned, she’s Latina, right? Latina are black. A lot of people don’t want to acknowledge it.” The cameraman did point out that that her ethnic background is Puerto Rican. Shawn replied, “She’s black!”

Subsequently, before sharing why Gina gets a pass, he went on to give a little history lesson.

“She’s from Puerto Rico? Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Dominicans, Mexicans, believe it or not, they all…we all here,” he said, while pointing to his skin to emphasize the color. “Just look at the history.”
