G Magic On Being an Up and Coming Hip-Hop Artist Out of Mississippi

A rising rap artist from the legendary Mississippi Delta is making waves and shaking things up. G Magic, a native of The Delta, embodies the unique spirit of the region. His lyrical talent delivers melodic tunes that reflect his personal struggles in Mississippi. In a place rich with culture, it’s challenging for musicians to be heard unless they’re singing the traditional blues. Only a few truly care about what you have to say. G Magic’s time at Mississippi Valley State University in the late 2000s marked a turning point when music became his priority. After listening to his tracks, HypeFresh secured an interview with him.

    Meet G Magic.

The question is, who is G Magic? With a smile, the artist adjusted his hat, pondering the depth of the inquiry. He shared the challenges faced by aspiring artists from Mississippi, where it’s tough to establish oneself in the industry. Nevertheless, he emphasized his ambition and dedication as a songwriter. He proudly expressed his fondness for The Delta and its blues culture, despite the lack of rap artists who have achieved widespread success. The artist firmly asserted that if you can make it in The Delta, you can make it anywhere in the world. The Delta is truly that kind of place.

G Magic on Networking and Being Seen

G Magic elaborated on the challenges he faces as an emerging rap artist. He explained that often, achieving success in the industry requires the endorsement of a well-known artist. However, this can be difficult when you’re relatively unknown.

According to G Magic, it’s all about staying consistent, releasing videos, and networking with other artists. He understands that as an independent artist, his path to success relies on maintaining consistency. Once he releases more music videos and songs, he believes it will be easier to attract the attention and support of established artists. When asked if he plans to remain independent, he expressed that venturing out offers greater exposure. Ultimately, his goal is to sign with a larger record label that can help amplify his career.

G Magic emphasized the importance of self-worth and guidance from others in the industry. While he aspires to be signed, he acknowledges that no one else can determine his value. However, he believes the right guidance can lead him in the right direction.

Becoming a signed artist is his ultimate goal. Although being an independent artist has its advantages, it requires significant effort to focus on music and marketing. It’s a time-consuming process. G Magic’s connection in Atlanta, where his son resides, serves as a promising opportunity to advance his career.

    Making It Happen

Magic mentioned a couple of producers he’s currently collaborating with, including TreSwaii and Memphis Track Boy. He noted the scarcity of producers in the Mississippi Delta region, but highlighted that TreSwaii is a local talent.

In terms of musical influences, Magic draws inspiration from Future, Lil Wayne, Tupac, T.I., and, most importantly, Easy E, who sits at the top of his list.

“When you want to deliver it with raw authenticity, that’s what I took from Easy E and embraced wholeheartedly,” he explained.

Magic’s aspirations include collaborating with Timbaland and Three Six Mafia. Discussing various rap sub-genres, he introduced his own style of rap: pain rap. This genre allows him to express his hardships while maintaining a gangster edge and embracing vulnerability.
