Known for his sense of humor, Gangsta Gibbs hyped the upcoming battle on Instagram with a photoshopped photo of himself between Gucci and Jeezy as wrestling characters. Shown below, the photo’s caption read: “This shit finna be bigger than the OJ Case #soicyboys #refereerabbit #verzuz.”
The battle between the Atlanta icons was requested by Jeezy-himself for the culture. Gucci Mane originally respectfully declined the challenge; however, later reconsidered and made the official announcement last week on Instagram. The history between Gucci Mane and Jeezy spans decades and is embroiled with slick disses on albums and lethal altercations behind the music. The battle shows the growth of both artists who have shed their heavily involved street pasts and become reformed businessmen.
While Gibbs is a Hip Hop funnyman, the ties between him and Jeezy are anything but funny. Well-documented, Gibbs has been very vocal about his departure from Jeezy’s CTE imprint. Most recently, Freddie Gibbs called Young Jeezy and his latest project “musically irrelevant.” Jeezy has yet to comment on any of Gibbs trolling and was recently promoted to VP at Def Jam Records which he has called home for 15 years now.
The Verzuz battle between Gucci Mane vs. Young Jeezy aires November 19th on Instagram and Apple TV.
