For the first time ever in history, in the year 2020, four all-female collaborations have hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
First was “Say So” by Doja Cat featuring Nicki Minaj, then “Savage” Remix by Megan Thee Stallion featuring Beyonce, “Rain On Me” by Lady Gaga, and Arianna Grande, and finally “WAP” by Cardi B featuring Megan Thee Stallion. Only nine all-female collaborations have ever topped the Billboard Hot 100. However, 2020 is the first year with multiple collaborations topping charts, which is a huge deal.
Megan Thee Stallion has made it in two separate collaborations, “Savage” and “WAP”. Her career has come substantially far from being on the 2019 XXL Freshman Class magazine cover just last year. In “WAP”, she teams up with Cardi B to bring a raunchy but superior girl power anthem. Megan Thee Stallion also teamed up with Beyoncé for a remix of her original song, “Savage”. This tune vent viral on TikTok as people caught on to the famous dance that goes along with the lyrics. Adding Queen B to the remix made it even better.
Another song that went viral on TikTok was “Say So” by Doja Cat. This dance was so popular that she incorporated it into the music video for the song. She then added a boss like Nicki Minaj, and everyone absolutely loved it.
The collaboration for “Rain On Me” was very cute between Lady Gaga and Arianna Grande. Both very talented vocalists came together in a dance centered music video. The pop song is a favorite off of Gaga’s new album, >Chromatica.
All of the artists named in this accomplishment are simply iconic. The songs showcase each artist perfectly. This historical record-breaking statistic feels like an empowering step for female artists everywhere.
