Ethiopian Plane Crash Leaves 157 People Dead

An Ethiopian aircraft crashed on Sunday.

The aircraft was a part of an Ethiopian airline and was carrying 157 people at the time of the fatal ending. Before the crash, the Boeing 737 Max 8 model was headed to Nairobi. Of the victims, there were 32 Kenyans, 18 Canadians, 9 Ethiopians, 8 Italians, 8 American, and 7 British. As well as four people who held passports of the United Nations, and more.

Authorities are saying that at the time of departure, the lane was showing early signs of malfunction. Apparently, the pilot, Yared Getachew, complained about the aircraft’s performance while in the air–just six minutes before the plane disappeared off the radar.

The incident is alarming to some, for two reasons. The first reason is that it was just a 4-month-old plane, and had just recently completed a trip from Johannesburg, South Africa. And secondly, because it’s the second time a Boeing 737 Max 8 has been involved in a fatal plane crash. Back in October, the same type of plane was involved in an Indonesian accident. As a result, an investigation has been prompted.

Since the accident, the airline has issued their condolences to the victim’s families.
