‘I didn’t pull the trigger.’
The world was ready to have questions answered regarding the incident of Alec Baldwin’s Rust movie. For the first time, the actor discussed what happened on that tragic day in an exclusive interview with ABC News’s George Stephanopoulos.
As questions are still unanswered, one takeaway from the interview is, Baldwin says that he ‘didn’t pull the trigger.’ According to Alec Baldwin, when he released the hammer on the gun, it unexpectedly fired a live bullet. The Bettlejuice star recalls every move he made was in the direction of what cinematographer Halyna Hutchins told him to make.
The Crucial Question
“So, I take the gun and I start to cock the gun. I’m not going to pull the trigger,” the actor continued. “And I cock the gun, I go, ‘Can you see that? Can you see that? Can you see that?’ And then I let go of the hammer of the gun, and the gun goes off. I let go of the hammer of the gun – the gun goes off.”
Stephanopoulos goes to ask the questions the world was dying to know, “So you never pulled the trigger?”
“No, no, no, no, no,” Baldwin said. “I would never point a gun at anyone and pull a trigger at them. Never. Never. That was the training that I had.”
Stephanopoulos pressed Baldwin in saying that, “you’re never supposed to point a gun on anyone on a set no matter what.” Baldwin not taking it lightly and responded with the ‘pointed the gun in a direction she wanted.’
“Unless the person is the cinematographer, who’s directing me at where to point the gun for her camera angle,” Baldwin replied.
“I didn’t point the gun at her, and she said, ‘Hey, man, don’t point the gun at me.’ I pointed the gun in a direction she wanted.”
Who’s To Blame?
It now has been almost about two months since the killing of Hutchins and wounding its director, Joel Souza. The 63-year-old star feels that someone is responsible for what happened, and that this incident was not his fault. Baldwin also said he has no idea how a live bullet got into the Colt .45 revolver that he used on the scene.
“Someone put a live bullet in a gun – a bullet that wasn’t even supposed to be on the property,” the actor said.
As a result, Alec Baldwin struggles to get through each day, reliving the horrific day over and over again. Also, knowing he killed someone’s wife, daughter, and mom. In the interview, as the investigation continues, Baldwin downplays the risk of facing criminal charges. However, the district attorney says otherwise, and that criminal charges remain “on the table.”

“I’ve been told by people who are in the know, in terms of even inside the state, that it’s highly unlikely that I would be charged with anything criminally,” he said.
Investigators from Santa Fe County are looking primarily at how live rounds got into the gun that Baldwin was holding.
‘No Guns’ On Movie Sets
Time will tell what’s next for the star, but soon the truth will all come out. Condolences go out to the families and friends of Hutchins. Unfortunately, a life was lost too soon.
