Kanye West has been on the good side of the media lately. Given his history, we’re not sure how long that will last.
Most recently it was reported that the rapper was in a war with EMI Music Publishing. The company believes that the Chicago native is still liable to provide album on the contract. Overall, Kanye believes differently and thinks that his obligation has ended. Well, that theory isn’t working out so well, as EMI Music Publishing is suing him for breach of contract. Yeezy and his legal team believe that they have a solid defense because in the state of California has a limit for personal services at seven years.
Overall the publishing service claims that they have exclusive jurisdiction in New York. EMI feels as though Yeezy’s legal counsel did the following:
flagrant attempt to forum shop his way around” those clauses and that his contracts “remain in full force and effect in their entirety.”
Above all, another thing to point out is that the contract has no clause in regards to retiring.
“At no time during the Term will you seek to retire as a songwriter, recording artist or producer or take any extended hiatus during which you are not actively pursuing Your musical career in the same basic manner as You have pursued such career to date”
However, an outside publishing source also gave their feedback in regards to the language of the contract.
“The key phrase is ‘at no time during the term,’” the source says, “which is basically to say ‘We are about to give you a big advance, it’s not the time for you to decide to become a painter next week.’ He can do whatever he wants after the duration of the term.”
This lawsuit is happening at the worse time. Recently Kanye West performed a live Gospel concert on a plane. From the choir he’s working with it seems like Kanye West gone fuck around and start a Church. The rapper is coming back in 2019, and stunting on people as usually. Just the other day Yeezy and Kim Kardashian pulled up in a custom Lamborghini.
