Ellen Pompeo reveals that it wasn’t all sunshine and laughs on the set of Grey’s Anatomy.
In fact, the actress reveals that it was one of the most toxic work environments that she’s ever had the privilege of working on. The 49-year-old woman tells Variety, “The first 10 years we had serious culture issues, very bad behavior, really toxic work environment.”
Pompeo wasn’t the only person to feel uncomfortable. Others like Patrick Dempsey, Katherine Heigl, and Isaiah Washington felt the same way. The only difference is that, unlike them, Pompeo got a way to cope with the challenge. “It became my goal to have an experience there that I could be happy and proud about, because we had so much turmoil for 10 years,” Pompeo said. “My mission became, this can’t be fantastic to the public and a disaster behind the scenes. Shonda Rhimes and I decided to rewrite the ending of this story. That’s what’s kept me.”
Now, Grey’s Anatomy is in its the 14th year on television. And as for Pompeo, well, she’s now the main star of the series.
