Elizabeth Warren is attempting to pave the way for a new America.
On Monday, Warren announced her new plan to eliminate student debt for almost all Americans. Under her new policy, she claims that nearly 42 million Americans would benefit by having their student loans wiped clean. It’s a plan that Warren intends to make happen by introducing what she refers to as the “ultra-millionaire tax.”
The ultra-millionaire tax is basically a tax increase for the very wealthy. Under the plan, it will require those families with over $50 million in assets to pay 2 percent, while families with over $1 billion in assets will have to pay 3 percent in federal taxes. Warren states that with this new proposal, it will help the U.S. raise $2.75 trillion over the course of a decade– which will go directly towards paying off the expected $1.25 trillion student loan debt across America.
So far, Warren is considered a top Democratic candidate for the 2020 presidential election. And with this new idea of hers, she’s certainly won over the hearts of some people still straddling along the fence of who to rally for. However, in the same motion, she’s also managed to gain some critics. One of those critics is me.
My “Warrented” Opinion
Personally, I would like to give my vote to Elizabeth Warren, because I’m one of those Americans with an outstanding student loan balance- not even close to being paid off. But, on the other hand, I know that she’s a politician, and the promises of politicians have to be taken with a grain of salt. I would hate to get my hopes up, just to be disappointed in the end. Because let’s face it, even if Warren won the 2020 presidential election, her plan would still have to be passed by Congress– which is pretty damn hard to do. Especially since only 4% of bills normally get the green light, according to a study.
And did I mention politicians lie like Trump denies his relationship with Russia? And by the way, I wonder if the MAGA people are still banking on Mexico to build that wall…
