From Compton To The Forbes List
Andre Young, who many of us know as Dr. Dre, has been named the top-selling artist of the decade by Forbes Magazine. The Hip-Hop mogul earned a sum of $950 Million, with Taylor Swift following him at $825 Million and Beyonce at $685 Million. The only difference is that Dre didn’t have any sold-out tours or multi-platinum albums. Instead, Dre used his talent as a businessman and a producer to propel himself to the #1 Spot.
Hard Work Pays Off
Starting out his career as a member of the group N.W.A, Dr. Dre had a vision that would expand beyond writing music. Having only produced one album within this decade, Dre managed to make most of his revenue using his ear and his mind. Back in 2014, he sold his “Beats Electronics” company to Apple for $3 Billion, Putting him in the top 3 earners in hip hop next to Jay-Z and Diddy. On top of that, he is one of the best beat producers in the music industry. Over the years he has helped produce and collaborate with artists such as Mary J Blige, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and Kendrick Lamar. Pulling off such bets has also landed him in Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Artists of all time.
Even with only three albums under his belt. Dr. Dre has solidified himself to the point where his peers respect him, and the newer generations look to him as a mentor. It’s no surprise that he got to where he is today.
