Does Denver Nuggets Star Nikola Jokic Deserve This Over Embiid?

According to Adrian Wojnarowski for ESPN, Denver Nuggets Nikola Jokic was voted NBA’s MVP for a second consecutive season. Many are disappointed with the NBA’s recent decision of rewarding Denver Nuggets Jokic with the MVP. The majority believe that Philadelphia 76ers star C Joel EMbiid deserved this award because of his exceptional play this season. However, many are not taking into account Jokic’s situation compared to Embiid’s. There’s no debate these two have been phenomenal all season long, yet, one’s season was a bit more impressive than the other.

Jokic struggled throughout the season to maintain long stints of win streaks, due to the absences of his number two and three scorers not being available. Yet, Jokic managed to carry this Nuggets team to the 6th seed in the Western Conference. Embiid’s team in the first quarter of the year wasn’t very good. Embiid helped maintains some level of respect for that squad. However, midway through the year, he inquired about a future Hall of Famer SG James Harden from the Brooklyn Nets.

     Nikola Jokic’s Case for MVP

Jokic managed to average career-highs of 27 points, 14 rebounds, and 8 assists, per ESPN. Not to mention, as a center in the league he was ranked 8th overall in the league for assists. Recently, the 27-year-old became the first player in NBA history with 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, and 500 assists within the same season. He will be an all-time great when it’s said and done and these back-to-back MVPs only solidified that even further.

Securing the 6th seed, with both his co-stars Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. was limited because of injuries. Even despite the lack of help, Joker managed to still make the playoffs for the 2nd consecutive year.

“It’s just remarkable what he’s done,” reported Woj. “I know that I’m very biased, I admit it wholeheartedly — the MVP isn’t even a competition. There are other great players, I’m not saying they’re not great players, but what Nikola Jokic has done this year, with this team, with everything that we’ve had to go through, is incredible. He was good last year and he’s even better this year.”
