Did the Brooklyn Nets or the Philadelphia 76ers win the trade?

The Brooklyn Nets have decided to cut their losses and trade, James Harden, per ESPN . While many believed his commitment was a fallacy with the organization, this only proves their point. Harden was just a part of a blockbuster deal that ends the big three in Brooklyn, however, Ben Simmons is receiving a fresh start. Both parties seemed to be thrilled with their decision to move on, yet, the question remains: “Who really won this trade between the two teams?”

Harden was traded for 76ers guard Seth Curry, Ben Simmons, and center Andre Drummond. Along with two first-round draft picks, per Wojnarowski.

The Nets are set to receive the 76ers’ 2022 first-round pick unprotected with an option to defer until 2023 and 2027. Harden was acquired in January of 2021 as part of a megadeal to unite superstars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Things didn’t go as planned as two of the three got hurt late in the playoff run. Durant held the team together as much as he possibly could, however, they fell short to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Less than 13 months later, the Nets fell to a nine-game losing streak. Harden was forced to fend for himself due to Durant’s knee injury and Irving’s part-time commitment to the Brooklyn Nets. This left Harden to carry the weight and after every game they lost, the team seemed to unravel. Ultimately, leading to the desire to want to play in Philadelphia. According to Woj, Harden has desired this for some time but feared outside critics if he spoke publicly about his intentions.

    Who won the trade?

Harden will reunite with the president of basketball operations, Daryl Morey. He saw Harden blossom in Houston, he will join forces with a phenom in Joel Embii who happens to be the MVP favorite. On the other hand, Simmons who was drafted first overall in 2016 by the 76ers was traded to the Nets. The All-Star and former Rookie of the Year has been fined for openly discussing mental health. He decided not to report to training camp and has waited for his removal in Philadelphia since.
