The Dominican Republic is not a place that’s visitor friendly for Americans, or David Ortiz…and he grew up there.
After being shot in his back, David Ortiz is still trying to recover from the near-fatal shooting. Overall David Ortiz escapes the grim reaper after the incident.
Today, the Red Sox team put out a statement, in which they say he’s just had his third operation, via The Hollywood Unlocked.
“The operation was performed by Dr. David King at Massachusetts General Hospital. David is recovering well and is in good spirits. We continue to be incredibly appreciative of the kindness and compassion shown to David and to our entire family during this difficult time.”

The DR has been in the news nonstop in recent weeks. Mostly because Americans have been turning up dead after vacationing in various resorts around the Caribbean country. But no one expected a Dominican man to find himself in harm’s way.
Especially not if that Dominican man was a star slugger, playing for one of the most famous teams in American baseball. The Boston Red Sox.
David was shot in his back, while he was partying at the Dial Bar and Lounge in Santo Domingo. After investigating the case, authorities believe the incident was the result of mistaken identity.
The bullet, which pierced Ortiz through the back, exited his body through his stomach–damaging vital organs in the process. Following the incident, he had to go to an intensive care unit. With some time, he was able to leave the ICU..
However, he still has a long road to recovery.
So far the team has not released any new details of David Ortiz’s third operation, but they continue to pray for his speedy return to baseball.
