Dave Chappelle Cancelled, Venue Bails Last Minute In Minnesota

Are the transgender jokes catching up to Dave Chappelle? His live show in Minnesota at The First Avenue Venue cancelled last minute due to joke controversy. The show took place at the Varsity Theater on Thursday evening, according to BBC. The show is a sold-out show on Dave Chappelle’s 2022 tour. He is a renegade on the loose who says what he feels and most fans are all for it. On the other hand, many don’t agree with Chappelle’s humor when depicting the LGBTQ community.

The venue went on to say that they must hold themselves to “the highest of standards.” “To staff, artists and our community, we hear you and we are sorry. We must hold ourselves to the highest standards, and we let you down. We are just not a black box with people in it and we understand that First Avenue is not just a room, but meaningful beyond our walls.”

    Dave Chappelle vs. LGBTQ Community

Dave Chappelle will forever poke fun at the Trans community no matter the backlash, this is proven. Chappelle’s past few Netflix series have caused such a ruckus that some venues just want no part in the backlash that follows.

In 2021, Dave’s Netflix series The Closer would spark controversy among the transgender community. Some fans didn’t find harm in his humor; however, some were ready to go balls to the wall, according to TIME. Netflix’s co-chief executive Ted Sarandos later came to Chappelle’s defense, vowing to leave the show to stream regardless. It seems as if other venues are not taking the risk of losing a community of supporters just for one night.

What does this mean to Dave Chappelle? Probably nothing. Dave Chappelle is Dave Chappelle, and he knows this. Let’s revisit The Chappelle Show(2003). The relentless, satirical comedy sketch show would address “hush-hush” issues. Not only did he address common political issues, he would center crude jokes around these topics. It was absolute comedic gold. Dave isn’t going anywhere anytime soon looks like, and neither is the trans. So, let’s all just get along?

A cancelled Dave Chappelle is no fun. Stay tuned for more Dave Chappelle 2022 tour dates.
