Comedy Duo Apologizes After Telling Naomi Osaka To Bleach Skin

Naomi Osaka skin color is a hot topic in Japan now?

Female comedian duo known as A Masso made the comment about Naomi Osaka’s skin color.

During the same day Naomi Osaka won the Pan Pacific Trophy in Tokyo, Kano and Murkami referenced Osaka’s skin tone by stating the tennis champion “needed some bleach” since she was “too sunburned.”

Although this is not the first time Osaka’s Japanese-Haitian heritage has been the subject of controversy, she did not address the duo’s comments.

The duo’s management company, Watanabe Entertainment Co Ltd. released the women’s’ apology on their website.

“Though we should have thought about it, we made remarks that hurt many people, something we will never do again,”

“We apologize for making the person uncomfortable and causing trouble for everyone involved in the event.”

The management company also made an apology on their own on behalf of their clients mistakes.

“[We] apologize for remarks inconsiderate of diversity in an era where diversity is respected.”

The company added that the comediennes know about their behavior and will take steps to understand diversity.

Osaka was born in Japan to a Haitian father and Japanese mother.

Though Japan is a homogenous society, successful mixed-race athletes such as Naomi Osaka is challenging that image.

Japan has over 126 million people, 2 million of 126 million are foreigners. How long are we going to excuse racial ignorance?

Maybe the country should undergo some diversity for the children classes while they’re young.

Have any thoughts on this story? How do you feel of the situation? Do you believe that people in Japan should still be excused for doing these racial things in 2019? What is the main problem?
