To play Penguin, Colin Ferrell required a transformation that led the actor to become unrecognizable in the role. Rupert Penry-Jones didn’t recognize Colin Ferrell

Rupert Penry-Jones speaks about his first encounter with Colin Ferrell in make up.

“I arrived on set and there was this confident guy walking around. I didn’t recognize him at first. He was friendly and telling stories. I thought he might be a supporting actor until I noticed details on his costume. He had a leg brace and scars on his face. Then it hit me, he must be playing the Penguin. It was Colin Farrell!”

“Mike Marino is a true genius. I mean it. He’s incredibly talented in drawing, sculpting, and shaping. He brought the Penguin to life with his artistic vision. Him and Matt discussed how the character should look physically.”

“Thelong hours Matt Reeves put in. COVID started affecting the world during our shoot. I left London in March, and then we had a break of four or five months before returning.”

Colin Ferrell continued discussing the hiccups in getting the film done including Robert Patterson’s Positive Covid test.

“Then, obviously Robert got sick and that was like, ‘Fucking Batman has COVID?’ Batman has COVID, that was just like, ‘fuck.’ But we finished it after I think they were probably from first turnover to last they were probably 12 or 14 months, the shoot. He’s cutting it together now, I haven’t heard sight or sound of him, I don’t know what he’s up to but I know he’s deep into it.”

Ouch, it seems Colin is calling Patterson out on his work ethic and we can’t really blame him. There is a level of professionalism that comes with acting especially, in a high value role such as Batman. Luckily, Patterson was able to complete filming. The film, Matt Reeves’ The Batman will release in theaters on March 4, 2022.
