    Matt Reeves’ The Batman Trailer:

To play Penguin, Colin Ferrell required a transformation that led the actor to become unrecognizable in the role. Makeup artist Mike Marino and others used a fat suit and special effects make up to transform Ferrell into the iconic penguin character. So much so, that his co-stars didn’t even recognize him.

Rupert Penry-Jones didn’t recognize Colin Ferrell

Rupert Penry-Jones speaks about his first encounter with Colin Ferrell in make up.

“I arrived on set and there was this guy walking around who was being so over confident. I had no idea who he was. He was being really friendly, he was telling all these stories, I was like, ‘Who is this guy?’ I thought he might’ve been a supporting actor …and I started noticing things about his costume. He had a brace on his leg and these weird scars on his face, and I thought, ‘This is quite a lot of effort they’ve gone to for a supporting artist…’ and suddenly I realized, ‘Wait a minute this guy must be playing the Penguin, oh my God that’s Colin Farrell!’

“Mike Marino is a genius. He’s an absolute and veritable genius. And that word gets thrown out a lot, but he is a drawing, sculpting, shaping genius,” Farrell said. “And he created this visage for the Penguin. I mean he and Matt talked about what physically the character stature would be.”

“The hours [Matt Reeves] worked. Obviously, Covid began to grip the world while we were shooting. I left London in March. then, we were down four or five months and we went back.”

Colin Ferrell continued discussing the hiccups in getting the film done including Robert Patterson’s Positive Covid test.

“Then, obviously Robert got sick and that was like, ‘Fucking Batman has COVID?’ Batman has COVID, that was just like, ‘fuck.’ But we finished it after I think they were probably from first turnover to last they were probably 12 or 14 months, the shoot. He’s cutting it together now, I haven’t heard sight or sound of him, I don’t know what he’s up to but I know he’s deep into it.”

Ouch, it seems Colin is calling Patterson out on his work ethic and we can’t really blame him. There is a level of professionalism that comes with acting especially, in a high value role such as Batman. Luckily, Patterson was able to complete filming. The film, Matt Reeves’ The Batman will release in theaters on March 4, 2022.
