Claressa Shields is challenging any man to get in the boxing ring and get knocked out.
For those of you who don’t Shields, Shields is an undisputed middleweight boxing champ. And she’s a girl.
Over the weekend she went up against another superstar boxer. The match was against Christina Hammer– the former titleholder. Shields successfully won the vote of the judges, and now she’s ready to fight another opponent. Cecilia Braekhus.
And after the match with Braekhus, which she hopes to gain 154 pounds for, she wants to fight a man. Because in her opinion, she can go round for round with some of the best male fighters out right now. When asked about her reasoning, she was completely confident in her skills as a fighter.
“I spar with men. I drop men. I bust [men’s noses]. I beat men up all the time.”
She also adds…
“Power for power isn’t a question because what is boxing? Boxing is the sweet science. It’s not about strength … because people were saying Christina Hammer was stronger than me. They were saying all these girls were stronger than me but did you not see the head movement that I had during the fight? See the defense? The offense? The traps I set!?”
Shields is calling out Keith Thurman and Gennady Golovkin— both men. But she isn’t worried, because, with tactics like hers, she knows she has what it takes to deliver the winning punch.
