Jussie Smollett may have had his charges dropped against him for allegedly staging a fake attack, but he isn’t getting off so easy when it comes to the City of Chicago.
Just as Smollett’s luck was starting to turn around, the City of Chicago is now deciding to hit him with a lawsuit. According to TMZ, they want at least half a million dollars.
The lawsuit also goes on to imply that Jussie is still guilty, despite the 16 criminal counts against him being thrown out. Within it, the lawsuit claims that the Empire actor hired the Osundairo brothers to help him set the whole thing up— as some part of an elaborate scheme to help him get a pay raise for his fictional role on the tv drama series, Empire.
Apparently, under Smollett’s request, the two brothers pretended to beat Smollett just enough so that the crime looked believable. However, they didn’t do a good enough job of convincing the public. Soon after the incident was reported, inconsistencies in Smollett’s version of the night became apparent.
Now because of all the time wasted, the City of Chicago wants to be reimbursed. Because according to the City, the investigation into Smollett’s alleged attack cost them big bucks. Between the cost of the investigation, attorney fees, and other expenses, it’s estimated that they’ve spent far more than $130,000. In fact, $130,000 only covers the cost of the investigation itself.
Thoughts? Do you think the City of Chicago has a valid reason for the lawsuit? Explain why in the comment section below.
