Chris Mintz Is A Hero During Oregon Shooting

Chris Mintz, 30, is an Army Veteran who was attending class like a normal person, then ended up saving lives.

According to Mintz family and friends, Mintz was in class when he heard the gunshots in the class next to his. Instead of running, Mintz told his class to calm down and walked towards the shooter. Mintz tried talking to the shooter, and tried to talk him out of it. Ariana Earnhardt, Mintz cousin said that Mintz moved from North Carolina to Oregon after the army to be closer to his son. When talking did not work, Mintz charged towards the shooter to stop him from entering his classroom, Mintz was shot three times. Mintz was in the army for 10 years.

Another family member, Wanda Mintz described what happened after being shot three times. “(He) hit the floor, looks up at gunman, and says, ‘It’s my son’s birthday today.’ (And he) gets shot two more times”

Throughout this situation, Mintz got shot two more times, but is now in stable condition. During this traumatic event, one student was a nurse and began performing CPR on a mortally wounded student while Mintz helped. Mintz is in school on the path of acquiring an education in fitness training at Umpqua Community College.

“He’s going to have to learn to walk again, but he walked away with his life, and that’s more than so many other people did,” Earnhardt stated.
