Robert Glasper Used Chris Brown’s Grammy Insult to Sell T-Shirts

After being on the receiving end of Brown’s harsh reaction when he didn’t win Best R&B Album at this year’s Grammy Awards, Glasper cashed in on his diss by starting to sell limited edition T-shirts online.

The t-shirts featured the phrase, “Who the f**k is Robert Glasper?” which was coined by Brown himself. The t-shirts have been a hit with fans and the Houston native has even revealed that some of the proceeds from the sales will be donated to charity.

The shirts were launched on February 10 and sold out within four days. In an Instagram post, the 44-year-old jazz phenom announced that some of the profits from the t-shirts will be donated to a local charity called the Community Music Center of New Orleans. This nonprofit, which is based in the Big Easy, shares the music culture and provides free music lessons to underserved youth.

    Robert Glasper’s T-Shirts Sold Out

Jazz pianist Robert Glasper monetized his Grammys loss to Chris Brown by selling T-shirts featuring the phrase “Who the f**k is Robert Glasper?” inspired by the singer’s insult. After a few days, the t-shirts sold out completely.

On Instagram, Glasper revealed that he plans to donate some of the money to the Community Music Center of New Orleans. The nonprofit, which is a music education and culture center in New Orleans, provides free music lessons to underserved youth.

After the rapper lost out on his 2023 Grammy award for Best R&B Album, Brown unleashed a series of explicitly-worded Instagram posts that were largely directed towards Glasper. He also took the opportunity to apologize for his comments and redirect his criticism toward the Recording Academy, but that didn’t stop him from using the t-shirt he created as a way to reclaim the dig.

Robert Glasper’s T-Shirts Donated to Charity

Robert Glasper has used his winnings from this year’s Grammys to sell some t-shirts, but not all of them. He threw in the oddball aforementioned item for good measure, and he’s even donating part of the proceeds to charity.

The t-shirt, which features a black and white design with a red shirt and a blue bow, comes in three colors: black, pink, and purple. It’s priced at $160. The t-shirt is sold through his online shop, and all funds go towards the Community Music Center of New Orleans, a nonprofit that provides music lessons to underserved youth in the city.

During his time in the spotlight, Glasper made a few landmark albums that have helped shape jazz and hip-hop as we know it. His latest, Black Radio III, was a well-deserved winner of the Best R&B Album award. He’s also got a slew of other notable albums to his name, including the classic Black Radio and his most recent release, Black Radio II.

After Chris Brown insulted Robert Glasper in his scathing Grammys dig, the legendary pianist came up with an interesting counter to the slap. He printed a series of shirts that read “WHO THE FUCK IS ROBERT GLASPER?” with the ‘O’ in ‘WHO’ subbed in with a laughing emoji.

The t-shirts went on sale on February 10 and sold out within four days, according to Glasper. He also announced that a portion of the proceeds from them would be donated to the Community Music Center of New Orleans.

It’s a clever move from the jazz pianist, who has also won three other R&B awards. In 2013, he won the award for Black Radio III, which features artists like Common, Jennifer Hudson and Ty Dolla $ign. This July, he will be the artist-in-residence at the Blue Note Jazz Festival in Napa Valley.
