Cardi B’s longtime friend, Yonette, “Star Brim”, Respass, has been indicted on a slew of federal charges. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York accused Repass of conspiracy to commit assault in connection with racketeering.
Prosecutors allege that Respass organized a brutal attack on two bartenders at Angels Night Club in Queens, NY. The beat-down occurred on August 15 of last year while Respass was incarcerated in federal prison in Connecticut.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office claims Respass ordered members of her 5-9 Brims sect of the Bloods to assault the two females for ‘not showing proper respect’ to another gang member.
“The 5-9 Brims is a violent criminal organization that has been causing fear in Brooklyn and Queens. They commit brutal acts of violence in public, sell drugs on the streets, and scam victims through financial schemes,” stated Richard P. Donoghue, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.
“This Office is working closely with our federal and local partners to dismantle criminal street gangs and prosecute their members to the fullest extent of the law,” he continued.
It’s alleged that Star Brim told her subordinates, “I want hands put on them. I don’t even want no talking.”
Following Respass’s orders, three of the defendants allegedly went to the bar where they lured the bartender away and beat her in the face while pulling her hair and throwing bottles at her. Reports indicate that one of the members was filming during the attack.
In addition to Respass, 17 other gang members have been indicted. The indictment alleges the attack was fueled through a rivalry with another Brooklyn gang known as “Real Ryte.”
Prosecutors are saying that Respass is the highest-ranking female among the sect.
Star Brim is expected to turn herself in to police after she gives birth. She is due any day now.
Cardi B fans have wondered about her relationship with the Bloods gang for a long time now. However, Cardi told GQ magazine that she once considered herself a Blood but now has broken out of that lifestyle, thanks to music.
