The of the legend of CandyMan is back. This week we were introduced to the trailer of the new CandyMan movie. The movie stars Yahya Abdul Mateen II (Aquaman, The Get Down, and Watchmen) as an artist name Anthony McCoy, researching the mystery of Candy Man for inspiration. Along with Yahya, the movie will also star Teyonah Parris (Dear White People, Survivor’s Remorse). There is no news on the role she is playing, but it is connected to Yahya’s Anthony McCoy character somehow.
CandyMan tells the story of superstitions in a housing project on Chicago’s Near North Side. The tell goes if you look in a mirror and repeat Candy Man five times, then the CandyMan will come and kill the ones who summon him. He has a hook jammed on the bloody stump of his right arm. He also brings honey-bees with him when he is about to murder his victims. Because they were the tool used to kill him before he became CandyMan.

CandyMan 2020 is written by Jordan Peele, Win Rosenfeld, and Nia DaCosta. Jordan Peele’s name alone makes watchers interested in this movie because of his suspenseful horror success with movies Get Out and Us. Nia DaCosta is not only a writer for the movie but also the director. She directed movies like Little Woods and an episode of the series Top Boy, but CandyMan will be her breakout movie for a big audience.
The trailer shows great cuts and gives you a sense of what the movie is going to be about. It looks like the main protagonist may also be the antagonist. We won’t know until the movie hit theaters on June 12, 2020. Check the trailer out above.
