Brian Rini is being charged by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for lying to police.
Recently, Rini pretended to be the victim of a kidnapping that happened seven years ago. Rini allegedly was picked up on Wednesday, after walking around Kentucky, and telling people his name was Timmothy Pitzen. The real Pitzen was last seen at the age of 6-years-old after his mother kidnapped him. For years the boy’s family hasn’t been able to trace his whereabouts. That was until Wednesday, when police received a phone call, describing a man claiming to be the missing person– who’d now be 14-years-old.
However, after a DNA test, authorities concluded that it wasn’t a crack in the case, it was a hoax. Apparently, Rini is a 23-years-old and was just seeking attention, out of jealousy. According to a U.S. attorney, Rini said, “He wished he had a father like Timmothy’s because if he went missing, his father would just keep drinking.”
As it turns out, Rini has a criminal history– one that involves vandalism, burglary, and falsification. He is currently being detained in Hamilton County, Ohio.
He could face up to 8 years in prison if he’s found guilty.
