    Taylor Swift Reveals Eating Disorder in New Documentary

    For the last 14 years, the world has seen country-singer turned pop-star, Taylor Swift, shine in the limelight. The singer had her big break in 2006 with the release of her immediate-hit album—Taylor Swift—and her career went soaring.

    We can’t forget that infamous 2009 Kanye moment though. After being humiliated on live television, Swift seemingly became America’s sweetheart.

    The now 30-year-old Swift is telling her story beginning to end in the new Netflix documentary, Miss Americana.

    Emmy-winning director, Lana Wilson, premiered this Thursday at the Sundance Film Festival.

    After spending over a decade in the spotlight, Swift has been the subject of tabloid abuse—most notably in her dating life—regardless of her reputation of being fairly private.

    However, the new doc explores Taylor’s life full circle—the good, the bad and the ugly.

    For the very first time ever, Swift opens up about her private battle with an eating disorder.

    Taylor says that media and ruthless paparazzi have been major triggers throughout her struggle. She explains how fame and pressure skewed her own body image.

    “At 18, I was on a magazine cover, and they speculated I was pregnant due to how my stomach looked. It felt like a punishment. During photo shoots, they praised me for fitting into sample sizes straight from the runway. I took it as a pat on the head, conditioning myself to seek praise and punishment, even related to my body.”

    The film features then-and-now photos of Swift from an unhealthy time in her life to her 2018 tour in an attempt to show the reality of what she was going through.

    “I thought that I was supposed to feel like I was going to pass out at the end of a show, or in the middle of it,” she recalls. “Now I realize, no, if you eat food, have energy, get stronger, you can do all these shows…”

    In the progressive 2020, we’re supporting body positivity now more than ever. Seeing stars like Taylor tell their hard truths, it inspires others to do so as well. Let’s normalize normal bodies for good. Kudos, Taylor!

    The Influence – Bass Reeves

    Born to slave parents in 1838 in Crawford County, Arkansas, Bass Reeves became the first black U.S. Deputy Marshal west of the Mississippi River and a renowned frontier hero.

    As a slave owned by William Reeves, a farmer and politician, Bass adopted his owner’s surname, as was common during that time. His first name came from his grandfather, Basse Washington.

    Initially a water boy, Reeves later became a field hand while working alongside his parents. In 1846, they moved to Grayson County, Texas.

    In today’s mainstream media, the modern-day cowboy and black cowboy legacy have been revived, notably through popular hits like “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X.

    Tik Tok is big on trends.

    If there is a song out and someone makes a cool dance to it, expect that song to blow up. With millions of kids on the app at any given second, it is no surprise that artists are turning to the new app to promote their music.

    Look at Lil Nas X. His hit Tik Toks Influence onOld Town Road has taken over the world. Lil Nas talks about how he used all of his money to buy the $30 beat. After making the catchy song and a funny video, he put it up on Tik Tok. What happened next is probably the dream of every artist. He began to grow and grow in the industry and even received some hate from the country community.

    Regardless, Lil Nas X has proven the power of Tik Tok. Millions of people that use the app. What better way to get people to listen to your music than to post it all over the app?

    Songs like Lottery by K Camp have been popping off on Tik Tok with its catchy beat, and all of these kids are doing the same dance to it.

    I am not saying that this is a guaranteed way to get famous, but it’s a start if you don’t know where to go.

    TThe D.C. Broccoli City music festival lineup has been revealed, featuring headliners Roddy Ricch, DaBaby, and Megan Thee Stallion. Other artists include Ari Lennox, Burna Boy, Doja Cat, Lucky Daye, IDK, and more.

    In a statement to Billboard, Broccoli City organizers and founders Brandon McEachern and Marcus Allen said, “As a black-owned, millennial-led festival, we take great pride in our ability to create safe and authentic spaces for the black community to gather and celebrate the beauty of our culture. At a time like this. It’s imperative for us to protect these spaces and encourage one another to make their voices heard, which is why our return to Washington, D.C., is so important.”

    The festival will take place from May 7 to May 9 at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, offering carnival rides, selfie art activities, VIP lounges, a cannabis experience, and more. Tickets go on sale on January 24 at 10 a.m. EST, starting at $79 for general admission. Don’t miss this exciting event celebrating black culture and music!

    Meek Mill has voiced his displeasure for Tekashi69 multiple times since 69 started snitching. Well, Meek was at it again this week after Tekashi’s girlfriend posted a pic of the disgraced rapper in his Jail outfit.

    In the picture, 6ix9ine is seen dressed in his prison best, standing next to his girlfriend, Jade. The shade room shared the photo shortly after, and that’s when Meek chimed in with his two cents.

    The Philly Native commented, ” That witness protection drip” under the picture prompting many people to respond with the crying emoji. Meek has spoken out against 6ix9ine via social media often in the last year.

    Just last September, the grammy-nominated rapper encouraged the youth not to follow in Tekashi’s footsteps of “Clout Chasing.” Pointing out the fact that 69 was on his way to a federal courthouse for playing gangsta.

    Besides both being from the Hood, Meek Mill and Tekashi69 have little in common.

    Meek has battled legal troubles for over a decade and has become an advocate for prison reform. Tekashi, on the other hand, turned federal witness after less than 24 hours in police custody.  Even more, Tekashi glorified a lifestyle that was never his own while Meek’s music was always more of a narration of a lifestyle that was a result of his environment.

    The fact that Tekashi69 used gangsta culture to earn fame, and then immediately denounced it once trouble came is the epitome of corny. Even more, 6ix9ine dominated the news for over a year with his off the wall antics and perpetuated a negative stereotype of urban culture. Cancel culture isn’t the best solution, but Tekashi69 should be canceled indefinitely.

    Juice WRLD Cause of Death Revealed

    The rapper Juice WRLD, whose real name is Jarad Higgins, passed away on December 8, 2019. It has been over a month, but on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, the cause of Juice WRLD’s death was revealed.

    The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office reported that the rapper passed away due to oxycodone and codeine toxicity. The Medical Examiner’s Office stated that Juice’s death was most likely accidental.

    Circumstances of Juice WRLD’s Passing

    The situation of his passing was a bit hectic. Juice WRLD passed away after having a seizure at the Chicago airport. The seizure occurred when the police were searching his bags for illegal contraband. Check out this previous HYPEFRESH article for further details on the circumstances of his passing.

    No matter what led to Juice WRLD’s passing, one thing that can be taken away from this unfortunate situation is the dangers of repeated drug use. It is sad to see another young artist pass away as a result of drug use. Along with the passing of Juice WRLD, other artists who have died due to narcotics recently are Mac Miller and Lil Peep. A few rappers spoke out about the dangers of drug use after Juice’s passing. These included Trippie Redd and Joyner Lucas.

    Although Juice was quite young when he passed away, he still was able to create a fair amount of quality music. Several people, including fans and other artists alike, expressed how much the artist meant to them after he died. Including musicians such as Chance the Rapper, Drake, and Trippie Redd.

    After starting on Soundcloud, Juice WRLD was able to gain large amounts of success. Hit songs of the rapper’s include “Lucid Dreams,” “Lean Wit Me,” and “All Girls Are the Same.” A number of his songs made the Billboard’s top 100. Along with this, some of his more significant songs have hundreds of millions of streams on YouTube and Soundcloud.

    Juice WRLD was quite the talented artist but sadly was only to able to make it to 21 years old. None the less he was able to make some meaningful, quality, and hit songs. But when it comes down to it is sad to have another young artist pass away due to drugs. Although rapping about heavy drug use might make for some hit songs, in actuality, repeated drug use is a dangerous road to go down.

    After playing for 16 seasons in the NFL, Eli Manning has retired. Manning played for the New York Giants for his entire career. When one thinks about the team over the past 15 years, Eli goes to capture what they represented.

    Throughout his career, Manning was able to accomplish a fair amount of things. Manning ranks quite high when it comes to passing records in the NFL.

    Manning ranks 7th or higher when it comes to career completions, pass attempts, pass yards, and pass touchdowns. Along with this, Manning gained several single-season records during the 2011 NFL season.

    These include the single-season records for most 4th quarter touchdown passes, longest pass completion and a touchdown, most game-winning drives, and most passing yards in a single postseason.

    During this season, Manning was also able to capture his 2nd Super Bowl victory and MVP against the New England Patriots. Before this, Manning accomplished the same feat during the 2007 NFL season.

    Eli Manning is just one of five players in NFL history who were able to get at least two Super Bowl MVPs. The list includes some extremely talented players. The four other players on this list are Joe Montana, Bart Starr, Tom Brady, and Terry Bradshaw.

    Final Thoughts

    It will be an odd sight to see the 2020 NFL season begin without Eli Manning suiting up in a Giants’ jersey. But it is time for Eli to go, he has had a long and successful career.

    I believe he should be in the Hall of Fame, but only time will tell. It should be interesting to see what happens in five years when he becomes eligible.

    Eminem Dropped Surprise Album

    Eminem dropped a surprise album titledMusic To Be Murdered By. This is Eminem’s 11th studio album. The album features 20 songs that cover a range of topics. Check out this previous HYPEFRESH article for a review of Music To Be Murdered By.

    So far, this album has had a fair amount of commercial success in typical Slim Shady fashion. Since being released, there have been over 300,000 copies of the album >sold, which is the 10th time in a row that Eminem has debuted an album at No. 1. The song Godzilla” featuring recently deceased rapper Juice WRLD, has been a big hit.

    His new album features a range of content, including songs such as “Darkness.” Which discusses the pressing issue of gun violence within the United States.

    Along with this, just as on any typical Slim Shady album, there are several songs featuring lines that call out other rappers. Eminem called out Machine Gun Kelly in the song “Killshot.” Along with this, he dissed Joe Budden in the song “Lock It Up” and called out the rapper Trippie Redd on the track “Marsh.”

All of these artists have responded to Shady’s call-outs on Music To Be Murdered By. But none of them seemed all too concerned.

    Machine Gun Kelly responded to “Killshot” with a track of his own called “FLOOR 13”. MGK goes to say that he was unfazed by the call out. Whereas Joe Budden went to laugh off the diss and remark that he does not need to waste time being mad at one of the best rappers. Additionally, Trippie Redd responded with a post to his Instagram story eluding to the fact that it’s pretty odd that Eminem is nearly 50 years old and is still calling out people who just turned 20.

    Overall, Eminem’s newest album has been able to gain commercial success. Along with this, he kept up his typical routine of calling out other rappers. It is pretty odd that someone who is nearly 50 years old is still concerning themselves with creating beef.

    Especially when it comes to people not even half his age, it would seem that the people he calls out don’t even seem to mind it too much nowadays. But you can’t blame Eminem. If he’s able to put out an album and make a lot of money off of them, then why would he stop?

    The first month of the new decade is flying by and February is lurking right around the corner. We’re in the midst of unbearable temperatures and Valentine’s day is just three weeks away. What better time of the year to stay in bed, binge, and completely reject the outside world!

    Netflix will be treating us well next month with everything from cinematic classics, sappy romance dramas, and fresh, new originals. The most anticipated thus far is Locke & Key, which will debut as a Netflix Original on Feb. 7. The series is based on a 2008 comic book series written by Joe Hill.

    Can 2020 become the year of the video game? Because it sure does look like it.

    2020 is here and with an army of video games that will have us laughing, crying, addicted, and in aw. There will be a lot of games dropping this year, but only a few have fans excited. I can’t wait to see what this decade brings, but here are Hype-freshes top 8 most anticipated video games of 2020.

    8. Nioh 2

    The original was an unforeseen hit in the gaming world. With difficult boss fights, beautiful graphics, and strategic combat, you can find yourself lost in this game. Nioh is a game series that takes pride in its severe difficulty, just like Bloodborne and Darksouls. Hence, there is no telling how hard the sequel will be. Even though the game is the next installment in the series, it will be a prequel.

    In Nioh 2, you won’t play as the original protagonist, William. You will make your character to fight evil yokai, but the best part is that you can also transform into a yokai. Nioh 2 will bring more weapons and a more significant skill tree to upgrade your character. Fighting will still be the same as the original, and it will always be challenging. If you were a fan of the original, make sure to get the sequel/prequel coming to stores on March 13, 2020. Nioh 2 is a PlayStation 4 exclusive.

    7. Marvel Avengers

    With the hype of Marvel comic movies who wouldn’t take advantage of being able to create a game based on our favorite comic film company. So, Squire Enix and Crystal Dynamics decided to join forces with Marvel and create an Avenger Video game. Avengers will be a 3rd person action-adventure featuring Avengers like Iron-man, Captain America, Hulk, Black Widow, Thor, Ant-man, and even some Avengers who haven’t made their theatrical premiere. There will not be any connection to any of the movie adventures. But it will have its own story that will allow players to control each Avenger throughout the game. There will be a co-op mission for players to manage the team and complete their tasks. Marvel Avengers is set to release September 4, 2020, on all platforms besides Nintendo. So get ready to have your friends assemble for this crazy adventure.

    6. Resident Evil 3

    Remakes seem to be a new trend in video game culture. With the announcement of Final Fantasy 7 remake and Resident Evil 2: remake success. Therefore, Capcom decides to come out with another remake of a beloved Resident Evil game. The Resident Evil series had made billions from its games, movies, and merchandise, so it’s safe to say that this is Capcoms most beloved series.

    Resident Evil 3 will allow the gamer to take control of Jill Valentine, while she and Carlos Oliveira try to escape Racoon City before she gets killed by Nemesis or blows up by a bomb. Each copy of RE3 will come with Resident Evil Resistance, which is a 1v4 (one vs. four) survival horror game, where the characters must escape a zombie-infested liar with traps all over.

    Both Jill and Carlos have new looks that are way better than the original, and the gameplay of RE3 will be more action base. Players will still be running from Nemesis in this game while still evading zombies. There have been no further saying if something from the story will change, but I guess we will have to wait and see what happens next. Resident Evil 3 will be hitting stores for all systems (besides switch) on April 3, 2020.

    5. Final Fantasy 7: Remake

    Continuing our list is another remake from another beloved game and series. Yes, people, I’m talking about Final Fantasy 7: Remake from Squire Enix. Though the game is the remake of the original, the developers did not want to make it to nostalgic. Unlike the original Final Fantasy 7, this will be real-time action like Final Fantasy 15, instead of a turn-based RPG. There will be a new voice cast for the characters. Clouds long time voice actor Steve Burton, who voices Cloud for 17 years in the USA, will not be in the remake. That hurts. The game is said to only focus on the escape of Midgar, but other games will come out later to continue the story that Final Fantasy fans love.

    Final Fantasy 7:Remake was initially announced in 2015 and took five years to complete. Info is still being released for the game, but gamers can’t wait to take control of Cloud and his friends as they try to save the world from Shinra and Sephiroth. FF7: R was initially supposed to be released on March 3rd of 2020 but got delayed to April 10, 2020.

    4. Ghost of Tsushima

    Ghost of Tsushima wow fans from its striking graphics to its shocking gameplay videos. The best thing about it is that this game is original and created by Sucker Punch. In Ghost of Tsushima, you play as Jin Sakai. You are one of the last surviving samurai who protects Tsushima Island from the first Mongral invasion in 1270s Japan. During your travels, you will recruit people to help you in your fight as well as develop a stealthy style of fighting called the way of the ghost. Maybe this is the origin story of ninjas, who knows.

    So far, we know that GOT (Ghost of Tsushima) is a 3rd person action-adventure stealth game. GOT is also an open-world adventure and has side quest, just in case you don’t want to finish the main story to quickly. There is not yet an exact release date for Ghost of Tsushima, but it is said to be released in quarter 2(April-June) or quarter 3 (July-September) of 2020 as a PS4 exclusive.

    3. Halo Infinite

    The Master Chief is due for a new game, and Halo Infinite is that game. Halo Infinite is the 6th game of the main Halo series. There is not that much news on the game yet. But what we do know is that there will be another Halo ring and forge mode is back. There is no release date, however. But the game will be released in 2020 as an X-Box One and PC exclusive.

    2. The Last of Us: Part 2

     

    The first game, The Last of Us, was a game that changed gaming for the better. It had a great story that made players think with their heads. It also had some excellent voice acting and scenes that put some movies to shame.

    The next chapter of the series looks to be 10x’s better. The graphics are beautiful, the characters are better, and the gameplay seems to run smoother than ever. The story is said to take place five years after the original and is focus on hate. Admirers of the original game will not be displeased with the upcoming sequel.

    In Last of Us: Part 2, you will not play as Joel. Instead, you will be playing as Ellie. Gameplay still looks the same the enemies AI are said to be smarter and harder, but don’t let that discourage you from buying (I know it won’t). The Last of Us: Part 2 is scheduled to be released on May 20, 2020, as a PS4 Exclusive.

    1. CyberPunk 2077

    No, you won’t be able to play as Keanu Reeves, but that’s the only thing you can’t do. In this massive open-world, you can do anything. Cyberpunk 2077 allows humans with mechanical upgrades to take on dangerous missions with futuristic guns, fast cars, menacing robots, and other futuristic things. Did I mention that You can do anything? I mean it! In the 48 minute demo of the game, you control (male or female) the character and take on a mission from the government; who you can kill if you want to…while they are giving you the task, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea because they are way stronger then you.

    Throughout the game, players can upgrade themself with mechanical modifiers to make your character stronger than anyone. During missions, you have many ways of completing them. You can negotiate, fight, or sneak your way through so you can achieve your goals. It’s too much to explain, so I’ll let you see with your own eyes in the gameplay trailer. This gameplay trailer came out in 2018, so it’s no telling what changes have been made now. But I can’t wait to find out. The game was supposed to release April 16, 2020, but got push back to September 17, 2020. It will be available to all platforms besides the switch.

    2020 is sure to release more video games that will have us going crazy. So, the only thing we can do now is to wait and find out what will be the 2020 video game of the year.

    The Coronavirus is a virus that can cause pneumonia and upper respiratory infections in its host. It began in Wuhan province in China infecting 300 and killing 7, Sparking global health concerns

    However, within one month the virus has spread to 17 countries. The United States is the latest country to host the virus. A man from Washington returning from a trip to carried the virus. He was quickly isolated after reporting being ill. Officials are saying he is otherwise healthy.

    The virus is similar to Sars, also known as avian bird flu. which for a time was also immune to antibiotics.

    A World on the edge of fear

    The biggest concern with the Coronavirus is that it doesn’t respond to medication. Which means it can become a superbug if the virus becomes more lethal.
    What’s alarming is the fact that the virus is infecting health workers working with those infected. Baffling scientists because those health care workers are taking all the necessary precautions to stop its transmission.
    Meanwhile, the CDC has begun to implement airborne disease procedures at airports around the nation. Furthermore, global health organizations have planned a worldwide meeting today. Nations across the world are on guard as the virus is rapidly spreading.
    Meanwhile, the mayor of Wuhan has asked it’s citizens to remain in the province until authorities have the outbreak under control. Furthermore, With flu season underway in America, this virus could pose a severe threat. Here are some tips for lowering your chances of getting the virus.

    However, with over 270 million smokers the Coronavirus could cause a severe pandemic if the virus changes.

    Back in 2014, the latest cannabis news in Pennsylvania was when Philadelphia decriminalized cannabis. Then, in 2016, the news was medical marijuana becoming legalized in Pennsylvania. Now, nearly a month into 2020, we are all wondering what the new year will bring concerning cannabis?

    The Weed Tour

    During the fall of 2019, during the mists of the vaping epidemic where there were dozens of lung sickness, Lt. Gov. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania proceeded to go on a statewide tour of all of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties to find out what the state’s opinion is on legalizing recreational marijuana. After the tour was finished, Governor Tom Wolf announced the results, revealing that the majority of Pennsylvania supported the legalization of recreational marijuana.  Furthermore, Governor Tom Wolf and Lt. Gov. John Fetterman then proceeded to call for three actions, which are:

    “1. Asking the legislature to get a bill to the governor’s desk that decriminalizes non-violent and small cannabis-related offenses.
    2. Seeking a path to restorative justice through the expungement of past convictions of non-violent and small cannabis-related crimes.
    3. Calling on the General Assembly to seriously debate and consider the legalization of adult-use, recreational marijuana.”

    We are just about a month into 2020, and we are waiting to see what happens this year. With Illinois recently legalizing recreational marijuana, cannabis lobbyists are anxiously awaiting the legalization of recreational marijuana in Pennsylvania; there is an excellent opportunity to get involved and learn more about the highly anticipated legal marijuana market coming up this spring.

    How to stay informed.

    Hosted by the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists, the CannAtlantic Conference will be in University City, April 4-5th. This event allows people to come and learn more about the cannabis industry and market by learning from industry leaders, researchers, politicians, dispensary owners, etc. Even more,  this event is an excellent opportunity to learn more about cannabis and equity in the market. This is also a remarkable chance to network and meet new people in the cannabis market.

    Overall, the prospect of legal recreational marijuana in Pennsylvania looks very promising for 2020, and there is a lot to look forward to. However, it is crucial to note that the legalization of recreational marijuana should be done very meticulously to benefit the communities that have been affected most by prohibition.

    The Migos’ “Culture 3” Will Be The Last In The Trilogy

    The Migos are closing out their Culture LP series with their upcoming “Culture 3”.

    Migos’ member Offset made it known on Instagram that “Culture 3“ will be the last project in the series… The previous albums, “Culture” and “Culture II,” were both hugely successful projects. The group earned a platinum record and a No. 1 hit, “Bad and Boujee,” on the Billboard 200. “Bad and Boujee” became the first No. 1 for both the group and Lil Uzi Vert, who was featured on the track.

    With the success of the previous projects, all three members have been busy with solo projects and other ventures; however, fellow member Quavo hinted at new music in an interview with HipHopDX.

    2019 was somewhat of a quiet year for The Migos, with them making appearances on tracks here and there both as a group and as solo acts. The Migos were also heavily featured on their Label’s, Quality Control’s, joint album “Control The Streets, Volume 2”. 2020 could be the year we see the group in rare form and hit the world a lot of heat they’ve been working on or had stashed away. Either way, we’ll be here excited to hear what they come with next.
