    Black Universities: 5 HBCUs That Dominate The South

    Famu graduatesTo attend a HBCU is more than a bragging right in recent times. To be Black, young and educated follows suit to the the legendary song by the late Nina Simone. African American students take pride of having something of their own—a HBCU.

    The bands screeching horns and blowing flutes, football games can compare to NFL games. Deltas and AKAs strolling by one another offering friendly rival gestures. A proud Black president of the school who holds the keys to campus.

    Attending a Black college is so amazing because students who are there, choose to be.

    There is just something about southern Black colleges. There is a pizzazz, a spice, a secret recipe. Today we are sharing 5 Black southern colleges that make tuition all the while.

    5  Southern HBCU Highlights

    1. Jackson State University

    JSU, home of the blue wearing tigers, is killing some Mississippi football teams this year. ‘Prime Time’ Deon Sanders hops in on his first coaching gig—the football star is the 21st head coach, according to Clarion Ledger.

    2. Howard University

    Howard is the dream school for the average African American college prospect. Why is Howard so cool? In its entire entity, the school is a center of black excellence and diverse education.  According to Diverse Education, Howard is the leading producer of on-campus doctoral degree concentrations. Not to mention the school’s band and party life, but that would take two pages to tell. Hopefully recent concerns regarding housing and student life will be addressed so that students can take pride in future homecoming experiences.

    3. Xavier University of Louisiana

    Though a historically Black school, Xavier is a private Catholic university in Sin City—the august city of New Orleans. New Orleans is a hot spot for lovers of soul, trumpet belts and gumbo. The co-educational Jesuit is the 6th oldest Catholic and the 4th oldest Jesuit, according to Niche. About 99% of its graduates are employed.

    4. Southern University of Baton Rouge

    Every knows Southern since Beyonce’s Homecoming tour where she highlighted the authenticity of the band. The band earned its rights for its exposure to larger audiences. Better known as the ‘The Human Jukebox”, the band ranks number 5 out of the top 10 division of bands.

    5. Florida A&M University

    FAMU as everyone knows, is often underrated; however, they have top programs in business, pharmacy, nursing, and engineering. It is one of the largest HBCUs in the country.
