Billy Ray Cyrus Jumps on Remix to “Old Town Road”

Lil Nas X may has just scored the last laugh.

Recently, Lil Nas X has gone viral with his breakout song “Old Town Road.” It’s a song that blends the unique elements that are widely recognized as belonging to the hip-hop genre and country music. And since it’s a debut, it’s become a very popular song. In the past weeks, it’s managed to land a reoccurring spot on the Billboard Country charts. However, the song has now been removed.

According to Billboard, “Old Town Road” did not possess enough country elements for it to stay on the charts. “While ‘Old Town Road’ incorporates references to country and cowboy imagery, it does not embrace enough elements of today’s country music to chart in its current version,” said a spokesperson, for Billboard.

Since then, many have debated if whether or not the decision is merely based on racism within the industry of country music or fact. Either way, you look it, Nas X has seemingly gained more support than hate. Jumping to his defense has been Billy Ray Cyrus, a legend when it comes to country music. Along with doing a remix to the song, Cyrus also sent words of encouragement to the young artist.

“When I got thrown off the charts, Waylon Jennings said to me ‘Take this as a compliment’ means you’re doing something great! Only Outlaws are outlawed. Welcome to the club!”
